Croydon On Flood Alert
Posted by Administrator : Friday 10th January 2014
Since early January a flood alert has been put on Kenley, Purley and parts of Croydon including South Croydon. The Purley area is no stranger to flooding, it endured heavy flooding in 2007 and many residents are preparing for more of the same this year.
Flooding is expected in the coming days, with the level of the River Wandle likely to swell due to the recent heavy rain.
An Environment Agency warning states, Groundwater levels have risen rapidly in the upper Wandle catchment in response to recent sustained and intense rainfall. The warning goes on to add there is a high level of confidence that initially, low lying roads and properties will be susceptible to flooding.
Other local areas to Croydon that may be at threat of flooding include Whyteleafe, Caterham, Beddington, and Carshalton.
